Hayward Wright

Hayward Wright has recently signed the Armed Forces Covenant, an opportunity that was introduced to us by the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce. Having been a firm of progressive accountants and business advisors, we have always been keen to support our Armed Forces, and this was the perfect way to allow us to formalise this support.

Supporting business owners to achieve their professional and personal goals is what the team at Hayward Wright excels at. “As a people-orientated business, we are always on the lookout for new team members who can bring something different to the firm,” explains Alistair Hayward-Wright, founder and managing director. He goes on to explain that “we love the transferable skills that both serving and ex-service personnel can bring and the diversity it adds to our team”.

A rewarding career within the industry can mirror some of the traits found within the military:

  • Discipline and structure: The discipline and structure required in the military can translate well to the meticulous nature of accountancy work.

  • Opportunity for advancement: Accountancy offers clear career progression, which may be attractive to those accustomed to the hierarchical structure of the military.

  • Analytical challenges: The analytical and problem-solving aspects of accountancy can provide a stimulating environment for those who enjoy similar challenges in the military.

  • Service to others: Accountancy roles involve helping individuals or businesses manage their finances, aligning with the service-oriented mindset of military personnel.

  • Continuous learning: The field of accountancy requires ongoing education and certification, which may appeal to those who value continuous personal and professional development.

Our industry has evolved over the last ten years and has moved far beyond just punching numbers into a computer. Below is some of the work we are involved in that may not be typically thought of when thinking about a firm of accountants.

  • Advising Client A on how the latest in financial technology can help grow their business, from providing real-time performance information to automatically chasing customers for outstanding invoices.

  • Client B came to us as they suspected financial fraud within their business; our team was able to investigate and provide full, detailed analysis to support the criminal prosecution.

  • Client C was looking to sell their family business of over 50 years. Our team helped find a buyer, provided financial due diligence information, and provided specialist tax advice and investment support for the owners post-sale.

  • Client D purchased a series of training sessions from us to upskill their team to use a market-leading accountancy system.

We hope this article demonstrates the diverse roles that are possible within a career in accountancy and that it is not all just about bean counting any longer.
